‘On the Same Page’ – Afro-Latin Society Commemoration, Fairy Fest, Polar Plunge

Host senior Emma Kersting dives into last week’s top stories in News, Sports, and Life and Culture by interviewing the Ithacan’s reporters to get a closer look at Ithaca College and beyond campus. This week, Kersting spoke with senior writer Alyssa Beebe, senior Jess Moskowitz, and sophomore Taylor Borash.
The Polar Plunge, an annual event that fundraises for Special Olympic New York, was hosted on March 23 by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Volunteers that raised over $25 line up to take the plunge in freezing conditions.

Ithaca College athletes dive into Special Olympics support

The Ithaca College Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) organized a team for the annual Polar Plunge on March 23, an event aimed at raising money and awareness for athletes competing in the Special Olympics.

Ithaca College athletes raise money for Special Olympics

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee at Ithaca College raised $686 for the Polar Plunge with the help of the athletic community.
Hundreds of Ithacans, among them more than 40 Ithaca College students, plunged into the 30 degree water of Cayuga Lake on March 21 for Ithaca’s second annual Polar Plunge.

Ithaca College students take the plunge for Special Olympics

This is Ithaca’s second-annual Polar Plunge fundraising event benefiting local Special Olympics athletes, using the slogan “Freezin’ for a Reason.” Individuals and teams raised funds to participate, and this year the event brought in about $34,000, according to the event website.
The Polar Plunge fundraiser raised more than $23,000 for the Special Olympics on March 22.
