The meeting took place on March 20, the day before the scheduled bargaining session between the full time– and part time–faculty unions and administration.
About 35 part- and full-time contingent faculty members and students at Ithaca College attended a teach-in presented by members of the contingent faculty union on Sept. 6 to hear updates on their experiences at the college and the unionization process.
FullÂ-time contingent faculty members at Ithaca College have voted to form a union with Service Employees International Union Local 200United, according to a press release issued May 24. They elected to unionize in a 23–13 vote out of 47 eligible voters, said Zeke Perkins, organizer for SEIU Local 200United.
Concerns about working conditions for contingent faculty members have led to an increase in unionization recently, with part- and full-time contingent faculty sometimes joining together in bargaining units.
