Following rallies about the racial climate on campus, Ithaca College will hold an event titled “Addressing Community Action on Racism and Cultural Bias,” which aims to list possible actions about this issue that could be undertaken immediately.
“I hope in the future that maybe this council will have an impact on the way that Public Safety officers interact with the students.”
Administrators cannot fully understand the issues and how to make progress without getting to know the students behind the movement.
On Oct. 26, 2013, between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m., Ithaca College students Jasmine and Jennifer Spearman got into a physical altercation with two Public Safety officers after the officers entered their Circle Apartment to investigate a noise complaint.
To address the root of the racial profiling issue, Public Safety should improve communication with students.
The Ithacan encourages students to come forward and share experiences at a public forum Sept. 15.
