The second annual Reproductive Rights Film Festival opened to an enthusiastic crowd, uniting students, activists and community members eager to delve into pressing issues surrounding reproductive justice. The festival aimed to use film as a medium for critical dialogue about reproductive justice, setting the stage for meaningful conversations on a topic that has become increasingly central in national discourse. Attendees were drawn in by the stories showcased on the screen, reflecting the complexity of reproductive rights in today’s society.
The creation of art has always had a place in the political canon: films, writing and art pieces, such as murals, often serve to send a message of support to social movements. Reproductive rights are one such issue that has been under attack in the United States after the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, with many states instituting anti-abortion legislation.Â
On the first Friday of every month, Ithaca locals and visitors are invited to take a stroll downtown to experience in-person shows and displays highlighting the local creative art scene, depicting a colorful assortment of artistic talent. One exhibit, however, is personally examining the relationship between art and activism.
