Smoking cessation aid wins Park Tank at Ithaca College

Senior Alex Horner and Sethavatey Limsreng ’16 fused technology and medicine to claim first prize at the third annual Park Tank at Ithaca College.
These digital competitions and projects are not new to the Park school, but one new element of the production process is that the sideshow will be run by students from “Live Event Production,” a television-radio class taught by Chrissy Guest.

After receiving 2,139 fewer applications in 2016, Ithaca College accepted 69.92 percent of applicants, the highest percentage since 2010.

Laila Ali to speak at Park Distinguished Visitor Series

Laila Ali, undefeated boxing world champion, fitness and wellness expert, and television personality and author, will speak at Ithaca College Sept. 29 as part of the Park Distinguished Visitor Series, according to a Sept. 6 announcement from the college.
One of many upgrades to campus that students will see this semester, is a newly-renovated studio in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. Other renovations include upgrades to the Fitness Center; improved Wi-Fi service; and renovations in the Terrace Dining Hall.

Dorothy Park, Park Foundation president, passes away at 103

She and her husband, Roy H. Park — after whom the Roy H. Park School of Communications was named in 1989 — founded the Park Foundation in 1966, which has funded many projects at the college, in the community and across the nation.

Six Ithaca College women who are members of the student organization IC Women in Communications received scholarships New York Women in Communications, Inc. at this year's Matrix Awards on April 25.
The last students to complete the sport studies major, members of the classes of 2016–18, pose in front of the Dillingham Fountains in Fall 2015. The sport studies major is now only offered as a minor, and additionally Ithaca College faculty and administrators announced a proposal to split up the Department of Sport Management and Media April 29 during a town hall meeting.

During a meeting April 29, Ithaca College faculty and administrators announced a proposal to split up the Department of Sport Management and Media in an attempt to better organize the programs. However, students have criticized the decision, saying they feel they were not included in the process.

Ithaca College will add three new minors in the fall

The Park School will offer an animation minor, and H&S will offer linguistics and translation minors. The three minors will include classes that are new to the college and classes that already exist.
Proposed cuts to summer runs include Route 11, which services Ithaca College. According to TCAT, the last six weekday runs would be cut, meaning that the last bus would leave the Roy H. Park School of Communications stop at 8:40 p.m.

TCAT considers reducing summer runs due to staff shortage

The Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit Board of Directors is considering a plan to reduce service on certain bus routes over the summer, according to a press statement issued March 28.
Interim Registrar Danette Johnson replaced former registrar Brian Scholten March 16. Johnson said more students at Ithaca College are brining credit from high school and most of these students end up spending the full four years in college rather than graduating early.

The number of Ithaca College students entering college with transfer credits from high school is increasing. With these credits, some students have the ability to graduate early, but many still choose to utilize their four years.
