Student organizations persevere amid $20K SGC budget cut and funding challenges

In a round of budget cuts directed in December 2025 from the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life, the Student Governance Council Appropriations Committee’s budget for Spring 2026 was reduced by $20K. The cut, and gaps in communication between SGC and the student body, sparked frustration and confusion among student organizations planning events for the semester.

Dance team expresses frustration with SGC appropriations committee

At the Feb. 9 meeting of the Ithaca College Student Governance Council, the Island Fusion dance team made a budget appeal to the council after the budget for their spring showcase was denied. The council also received updates on the Middle States Reaccreditation process, confirmed two new senators and heard senate reports.
On Sept. 21, the Ithaca College Student Governance Council announced the elected senate candidates for the 2025-26 academic year. Candidates campaigned from Sept. 16 to Sept. 19, with voting on IC Engage opening Sept. 18 and ending Sept. 19.

SGC shares results of Fall 2025 election

On Sept. 21, the Ithaca College Student Governance Council announced the elected senate candidates for the 2025-26 academic year. Candidates campaigned from Sept. 16 to Sept. 19, with voting on IC Engage opening Sept. 18 and ending Sept. 19.

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council held platform presentations Sept. 15 in the Klingenstein Lounge on the second floor of the Campus Center for candidates running in the Fall 2025 election. Candidates are able to campaign from 9 a.m. Sept. 16 to 4:59 p.m. Sept 19.
Luca Maurer — executive director for student equity, inclusion and belonging in the Center for Equity, Inclusion and Belonging — said the Center for EIB helps support affinity groups for faculty and staff like groups focused on supporting early career, LGBTQ+ and remote working faculty and staff.

SGC discusses inclusion on campus amid federal pressures

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Sept. 8 to hear from Luca Maurer — executive director for student equity, inclusion and belonging in the Center for Equity, Inclusion and Belonging — about his office’s efforts to foster inclusion on campus in the face of federal pressures at the council's first meeting of Fall 2025.
