Student organizations handle recruitment and funding issues

While a bulk of the responsibility falls on student organization leaders to sustain their clubs, Ithaca College has some opportunities for support that can address issues with club sustainability.
Brittany Watros was promoted to student organization business coordinator in the Ithaca College Office of Student Engagement (OSE) on Oct. 31. She formerly held the role of administrative assistant in the OSE since July 2015.

Earth Fest Promotes Student Businesses and Sustainability

IC Eco Reps, South Hill Forest Products and several student artists held Earth Fest on April 21 as a precursor to Earth Day.

Junior Kinza Ceesay founded the Muslim Student Association with freshman Mely Megahed Ramadan to create a safe space for Muslim students at the college.

Students form new Muslim organization on campus

Two students have started the college's first organization for Muslim students, the Muslim Student Association (MSA).
At the Faculty Council meeting Oct. 6, La Jerne Cornish, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said that approximately 130 faculty members at the college will be cut and that entire departments may be discontinued in part due to decreased student enrollment.

IC Genes is a new organization and its goal is to defy misconceptions about genetic engineering and create a community to discuss synthetic biology.
Although the Diversity and Inclusion Discussion Circles were created last fall in response to student criticism that diversity and inclusion was not prioritized at the college, students rarely show up to the meetings. As shown above, mainly faculty and staff participate in the discussions.

Diversity discussion circles lack student participation at IC

Faculty and staff are looking for ways to ramp up student interest in the college’s weekly diversity and inclusion discussion groups. These groups were created in response to student protests last fall to address complaints about the administration’s lack of emphasis on diversity and inclusion. However, students do not seem to be attending the discussion groups.
