Students research sustainability of cosmetics

Two Ithaca College seniors have been selected to present their research project, “Not-So-Clean-Cosmetics,” at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research.
Carolyn Tomaino is the interim coordinator of Friendship Donations Network. They partner with local restaurants and grocery stores to provide perishable, healthy foods for Ithaca College's food pantry and the Ithaca community.

Ithaca College will no longer be purchasing plastic straws for its on-campus retail locations. Instead, the plastic straws will be replaced with compostable ones.
Students can drop off unwanted items at Take It Or Leave It (TIOLI), a re-use room run by Eco Reps.

The Office of Energy Management and Sustainability should be applauded for the work it has done to accelerate the college’s progress toward its goal.
According to Second Nature, the organization the college reports its carbon data to, the college emitted a total gross of 23,673 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MTCO2e) in 2017.

At the All-College Gathering on Aug. 23, Ithaca College President Shirley M. Collado announced that the college’s carbon footprint is projected to drop by 45 percent this academic year. This decrease in overall carbon output is part of the college’s previous pledge to be completely carbon neutral by the year 2050.
