Editorial: Students must weigh the limitations of Title IX policies

The collegiate justice system continues to fail students as non-comprehensive policy succeeds and supportive representation from the Title IX office remains in question.
Despite increasing awareness of the widespread issue of sexual violence, the college has had increasing numbers of Violence Againt Women Acts (VAWA) reported to Title IX recently. According to the AFSR, the college recorded 11 reports of on-campus rape in 2017, 13 in 2018, 14 in 2019, 10 in 2020.

A new program at Ithaca College, IC Responsibility (ICR), aims to educate students about intervention to ensure that violence prevention education.
There were 13 reported cases of rape in 2018, 14 in 2019 and 10 in 2020. All reported rapes in 2020 occurred in on-campus student housing. The report, released Sept. 29, includes data from the 2018 calendar year through the 2020 calendar year.

Ithaca Colleges proportion of student athletes is nearly the opposite of its undergraduate enrollment, as the proportion of its student body in 2021 is 59% female and 41% male.

Gender equity issues persist within Ithaca College athletics

Ithaca College Athletics is compliant with two out of three parts of Title IX. However, there are still questions about gender equity issues within the athletics department. 
The BOLD Women’s Leadership Network requires that applicants identify as women, but Samantha Elebiary, BOLD Program Director at the college, said nonbinary identifying students are not discouraged from applying. Elebiary said students are not required to disclose their gender identity on the application. 

BOLD program under investigation for Title IX complaint
