February is Black History Month and 2026 marks a century of this celebration of African American voices. As some government departments and companies move to oppose the recognition of minority history, groups at Ithaca College are ensuring that Black voices will continue to be heard.
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Feb. 2 for their first meeting of Spring 2026 to hear about the college’s plans for Black History Month celebrations and spend time goal setting for initiatives they wanted to pursue over the course of the semester.
Cliff-Simon Vital, former interim director of the BIPOC Unity Center, has been appointed as permanent director of the renamed Unity Center. The center has not had a permanent director in almost two years.
