Colleges woo Mom and Dad

Instead of parents tagging along on tour groups and student-targeted events, now they have their own activities when visiting colleges.

Colleges, such as Marymount University and American University, have been organizing online chats and sending post cards to parents to make them feel involved. And some colleges are even separating students and parents when they visit, this way students get the college atmosphere and parents ask the more important stuff: financial aid.

Many of these colleges have said this is something new they’re trying because college is so expensive these days. And you know what? It is a good idea. At 17 years old, we don’t really know what we want. The decision is supposed to be up to us but it’s our parents that shell out the money. And for first-generation college students, this is a great way to shed some light for parents.
