The Ithaca College men’s lacrosse team was ranked No. 18 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association heading into its spring break trip to Tampa, Florida, for a pair of games. The Bombers kicked off their warm weather trip with a 19–3 victory over Colorado College on March 15 to improve their record to 4–1 on the season. All four of the team’s wins have come by a margin of at least 12 goals.
After giving up the first goal of the game to senior midfielder Eric Neumeyer, the South Hill squad rallied off 18 straight goals over the course of the game. Sophomore midfielders David Drozjock and Stephen Morrell started off the scoring streak for the Bombers in the first quarter.
The second quarter was the Blue and Gold’s strongest quarter, as they netted nine goals to expand their lead to 11–1. Drozjock and Morrell each notched two more goals in this quarter and sophomore attackman Jake Cotton also put through three goals in the second. Sophomore attackman Kaelan Fitzpatrick and freshman attackman Will Witter each assisted on two goals in the quarter.
In the second half, Morrell and Cotton each scored once more, accounting for two of the Bombers’ five third quarter goals. Cotton also had two assists and Fitzpatrick had one.
Freshman midfielder Owen Smith scored an unassisted goal for the Bombers in the fourth quarter, which was followed by an unassisted goal from freshman midfielder Daniel Lunghamer of Colorado College, for the Tigers’ second goal of the game. Junior midfielder Austin Smith netted the 19th and final goal for the South Hill squad, and then 17 seconds later freshman midfielder Parker Woo netted the Tigers’ third goal.
Senior goalkeeper Scott Sidnam made eight saves in 51 minutes and 50 seconds of play, along with one goal allowed. Junior goalkeeper Jack Deragon relieved him for the final eight minutes and 10 seconds of play and saved one shot and allowed two goals.
The Bombers will return to action in Florida at 7:30 p.m. March 17, when they face the 1–2 Babson College.
