1. YouTube founder Chad Hurley is visiting Ithaca College as part of the Park Distinguished Visitor series. In 2007, Hurley and his partners Steve Chen and Jawed Karim sold YouTube to Google Inc. for $1.6 billion. He also co-founded AVOS systems, a technology company that helps developers create apps faster. He will present at 7:30 p.m. in Emerson Suites. 2. The college has formed a partnership with Shanghai Normal University, according to an Intercom announcement published Tuesday. President Rochon has signed a memorandum of understanding with the university to demonstrate the commitment of both Rochon and Zhang Minxuan, president of Shanghai Normal University, to continue discussions about the establishment of a center on the Shanghai campus.
3. Cornell researchers have received a $1.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation to study nanoparticles. Nanoparticles are used in consumer goods like lithium-ion batteries and some solar-powered devices. The researchers hope to improve the production of these particles to increase the efficiency of batteries.

1. Connections, a support group for first-year students, will meet at 3 p.m. in Phillips Room in the Muller chapel. The group focuses on adjustment to college, building relationships and becoming a part of the campus community.
2. International activist Judite Stronzake from the Brazilian Landless Workers’ Movement will present at 10 a.m. in Clark Lounge in Campus Center. The presentation will focus on Stronzake’s work with the Landless Workers’ Movement to create new approaches to community organization, food justice and social policy. The event is free and open to the public.
3. The African Students Association is holding an event called “Africa Through Film,” at 7 p.m. in Textor 103. The event aims to promote awareness about African political, social and cultural aspects.

What was The Ithacan reporting 40 years ago?
With one of the largest freshman classes the college has ever seen, over-enrollment has been a major concern this semester, but did you know it was a problem 40 years ago? In 1973, the college was discussing possible solutions to an over-enrolled class. After a controversial debate, former college President Ellis Phillips implemented the policy of refunding room and board costs to students who withdrew from the college because of over-enrollment.
