After defeating the University of Rochester April 12, the Ithaca College baseball team won its sixth consecutive game, putting it at 13–9 for the season.
The Bombers quickly got on the board in the first inning, scoring five runs. The Bombers followed up with two more runs, one each in the second and third innings. Junior Trevor Thompson was 2–2 with a double, single and a run after the first seven runs were scored.
The Yellowjackets remained scoreless until the fourth inning when freshman Aiden Finch hit a two-run single with no outs. It was not long after when the Bombers offense exploded again. In the following three innings, the Bombers put up five more runs, concluding their total of 12 runs in the game. One of three hits of the night from freshman Webb Little was a single in the fifth to drive on a run. In the seventh, Thompson batted in another run on a triple. He was a home run away from a cycle.
Although the Bombers were unable to produce more runs, the Yellowjackets fought back in the eighth. Triples from junior Pete Carrier and freshman Ryan Spurr gave Rochester two more runs. The third and final run of the game cut the Yellowjackets short, and they were unable to tighten up the score and walk off with a win.
Senior starting pitcher John Prendergast earned his first win since April 27, 2014. Prendergast surrendered two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in five innings. Junior Logan Barer pitched the final four innings, giving up three earned runs in the eighth and eight strikeouts.
With the win, the Bombers are now 5–1 in the Empire 8 Conference play. The Blue and Gold’s next game against SUNY Cortland will take place at 4 p.m. on April 14 at Freeman Field.
