Women’s lacrosse falls to nationally ranked Hamilton

The Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team lost its first game in the month of April, dropping a road contest to No. 11 Hamilton College 15–7 on April 19.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bombers.

The matchup with Hamilton was the Bombers’ third contest facing off against a nationally ranked team. The Blue and Gold are now 0–3 on the year against nationally ranked teams, having been outscored 48–16 in those games.

Hamilton got the scoring going less than one minute into the game with a tally from freshman midfielder Kara Pooley. The Bomber’s junior midfielder Morgan Cadwell answered with a goal of her own, but the Continentals followed that up with a momentous run.

Hamilton scored three straight goals to extend its lead to 4–1, with another finish from Pooley, in addition to a pair of goals from junior midfielder Morgan Fletcher.Senior midfielder Ally Lates cut into the lead with a goal midway through the first half, trimming Hamilton’s lead to two.

Hamilton went on to score eight of the game’s next 11 goals to take a commanding 12–5 lead into halftime.

The Bombers defense stepped up in the second stanza, allowing just three goals, but it was too late as the Blue and Gold fell by a score of 15–7.

Junior goalie Emily Ross stopped six shots in the loss in just over 45 minutes of action. Cadwell paced the Bombers with a team-leading four points, all coming on goals, while Lates, senior midfielder Riley Marion and junior attack Morgan Racicot each got on the board as well.

The Blue and Gold’s biggest weakness reared itself in the possession game, where they lost the draw control battle, 19–6, resulting in Hamilton outshooting the Bombers 34–18.

The Bombers next contest will be their final regular season road game at 4 p.m. April 23 against Alfred University.
