The Ithaca College women’s tennis team beat the Utica College Pioneers 9–0 Sept. 7 in its second match of the season.
The doubles matches gave the Bombers a 3–0 lead to start the match. Sophomores Kathryn Shaffer and Caroline Dunn won their match at first doubles 8–0. Freshman Brianna Ruback and sophomore Taylor Ginestro beat the Pioneers 8–1 at second doubles, while senior Jodi Grosberg and freshman Jane Alkhazov closed out the doubles matches by winning 8–2 at third doubles.
After successful doubles play, the Bombers went on to sweep all six singles. Ruback defeated Utica sophomore Julianne Pieros 6–0 and 6–0 at first singles, while Dunn defeated Utica sophomore Sara Gribanoff 6–0, 6–1 at second singles.
Grosberg, Shaffer and Alkhazov all won their matches 6–0, 6–0, while Ginestro won 6–0, 6–1 to complete the sweep.
The Ithaca Bombers are now 2–0 on the season. The Bombers play again in the Mary Hosking Invitational Sept. 10–11 at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York.
