Cross-country continues season at YellowJacket Invitational

The men’s and women’s cross-country teams competed in the University of Rochester YellowJacket Invitational Sept. 17 in Rochester, New York.

The women’s team finished their 6K course in second place out of 27 teams with 103 points. The men’s team completed their 8K course with 206 points, coming in eighth out of 29 teams.

The men’s team lost to Hamilton College by one point, falling slightly short for seventh place. The Bomber’s average time was less than 50 seconds behind first place winners, University of Mount Union.

The Bombers were led by senior Sean Phillips, who crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 25:44.9. Freshman Jeffrey Montgomery placed 32nd with a time of 27:09.5, followed closely by senior Chris Gutierrez, who placed 37th. Senior Shane Connor and sophomore Daniel Hart finished 60th and 74th, respectively, to complete the Bomber’s five scoring runners.

The women’s team took second behind Cornell University. The Bombers had an average time of 22:53.0 while Cornell averaged 21:47.8.

Junior Taryn Cordani individually obtained first place for her second meet in a row, finishing her 6K in 21:16.0. The five scoring Cornell runners placed second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh.

Junior Denise Ibarra ran a time of 22:25.9 and placed 13th. The Bomber’s next runner, graduate student Michaela Cioffredi, finished in 28th place with a time of 23:05.7.

Freshman Annika Morrison finished in 40th place in 23:41.6, followed by the Bomber’s final scorer, senior Emily Drain. Drain came in 48th place with a time of 23:55.7.

The cross-country teams will continue their seasons at 12:15 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Williams College Purple Valley Invitational in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
