The Ithaca College field hockey team defeated the Elmira College Soaring Eagles in a crucial 6–0 Oct. 29. However, despite the win the Bombers failed to advance to the Empire 8 Championships.
The eagles now move to 2–14 on the season and the Bombers are now one game above .500 at 8–7 and 5–3 in the Empire 8. This was the sixth time the Bombers defense shutout their opponent this season.
The Bombers only scored one of their six goals in the first half. Junior midfielder Amanda Schell scored her first goal of the season in the fifth minute of the game, off of an assist from junior forward Michaela Donohue. The Bombers pounded the Eagles’ defense with 12 shots in the first half, the majority of which came within the first few minutes of the game.
In the second half, the Blue and Gold pushed across two shots within the first three minutes of the half. In the 45th minute, Donohue scored the second goal of the game. Senior forward Colleen Keegan-Twombly, who had a goal herself later in the game, assisted Donohue.
Six minutes later, senior forward Cassie Schuttrumpf notched her sixth goal of the year after she beat a defender and got past the Elmira goalie.
Donohue scored her second goal of the game off an assist from senior midfielder Lauren Delia in the 54th minute. After a few fouls on the Bombers, Keegan-Twombly scored her team–leading 13th goal on the season off a rebound in front of the Eagle goalie. Delia, assisted by Schuttrumpf, scored her eighth goal of the year to clinch the 6–0 victory for the Bombers.
Senior goalkeeper Katie Lass only saw four shots come her way and made one save.
This game ends the regular season for the Bombers, as they failed to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
