The Ithaca College men’s basketball team suffered its fifth loss in a row after being defeated by Alfred University 85–77  Feb. 3. The Bombers are now 6–14 on the season while the Saxons are now 8–11.

The Bombers started off first with a jumper-shot by junior Marc Chasin. Following the shot, the Blue and Gold continued to extend their lead in the first half over the Saxons, but late in the half the Bombers began to lose their lead. With under four minutes to go in the half, the Bombers lost their lead and were down by five points at the end of the first half.

The Bombers came out of halftime strong. Points scored by freshman Riley Thompson, sophomores Matt Flood and Peter Ezema, and junior Joey Flanagan helped the Bombers get back into the game quickly. Halfway through the second half, the South Hill squad was continuously down by two points, but then the Saxons lead started to grow.

With under five minutes to play, Alfred had its largest lead over the Bombers as they led by 18 points. The Bombers tried to come back, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

Thompson scored a career-high 21 points, followed by freshman Sebastian Alderete with 16 points, and Ezema with 13 points.

In the win for the Saxons, sophomore Dom LaMorta scored 22 points, followed by junior Nick Schmidt with 17, and junior Dalton Cousin with 13 points.

The Bombers next game will be played against Steven’s Institute of Technology at 4 p.m. Feb. 4 in Ben Light Gymnasium.
