Mark Zuckerberg is angry. And for all the right reasons. With the release of “The Social Network,” a film about Zuckerberg’s rise to power and accomplishment as the founder of Facebook, looming just around the corner (Oct. 1), it’s becoming more and more imminent that the media mogul and his company aren’t too happy with the movie’s depiction of Zuckerberg’s life, friends and experiences. Zuckerberg has denounced the movie as fiction, but that won’t stop people from watching the film and seeing some form of minute truth in it. Yes, Facebook started at Harvard University, where Zuckerberg later dropped out of to become a billionaire…and yes, the site has spawned seemingly endless controversy relating to privacy policies, but Zuckerberg is telling many people to dismiss the movie as just that — a movie.
But that won’t stop me from being ridiculously excited about it.
Watch “The Social Network” Trailer
Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland) plays the role of Zuckerberg and it’s clear in the trailer that this is your typical (or not-so-typical) rise to fame story about a geeky kid with a lisp who eventually becomes one of the most powerful men in the world — all before he can legally buy a beer. What I’m curious about is what is in the film that makes the Facebook company tick. Debauchery in the dorm room should make a young audience want to give Zuckerberg a high-five more than anything. And like Taylor Swift, Zuckerberg might end up wanting to thank the filmmakers for making him look like a mack-daddy king — like his own personal Kanye West.
Find the positives, Mark…find the positives.
