Does whatever a spider can…in a Broadway theater

The new Spiderman musical, “Spiderman: Turn off the Dark,” directed by Julie Taymor with music by Bono and The Edge, is set to open for Broadway previews on Nov. 28. It’s a pretty massive production (how else could you stage the story of Spiderman?) and requires a lot of technical prowess on the part of the show’s designers.

According to an article in The New York Times, safety inspectors are making their final rounds and monitoring the stunts and flying sequences in the show before it opens. That means ensuring that the stunts are safe for the performers and the audience.

Two performers were injured during demonstrations of one flying technique. It happens, but in a small way this just makes me more excited to see the show. It’s going to be some serious stuff up on the stage. And with such a hefty price tag, it better be good.
