The women’s soccer team opened Empire 8 play yesterday, picking up a 2-1 win against St. John Fisher College.
Like the team has been doing all season, they went up early in the first half. Sophomore Anna Gray tallied her first career goal in the 19th minute to put the Bombers up 1-0. St. John Fisher were denied goals continually, but got the equalizer in the 73rd minute to knot the game at 1-1.
The South Hill squad did not waste any time though, gaining the lead back in the 77th minute when junior forward Rachael Palladino scored her fourth goal of the season. The game-winning goal came off a cross from junior midfielder Caroline Jastremeski and put the Bombers up for good. It was the third consecutive win for the Blue and Gold, who improved their regular season record to 4-0-1.
The team will face SUNY-Cortland at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
