The women’s golf team won its second consecutive Empire 8 championship this weekend at the Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville, N.Y. The Blue and Gold had a team record score of 654 and defeated second place St. John Fisher College by 100 strokes.
Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and freshman Sharon Li lead the Bombers with a school record of 153, shooting an 82 and a 71 in the first and second rounds respectively. Li’s 153 tied her for the overall low score with St. John Fisher junior Alex Battle, who defeated Li on the third extra hole of a sudden-death playoff. Li’s second round score was one-under par and was the first sub-par score in Empire 8 conference history. She also lowered her own school record by nine strokes.
The team will make their first appearance in the Mount Holyoke Invitational this weekend at the Orchards in South Hadley, Mass., the site of the 2004 U.S. Women’s Open.
