The baseball team traveled to Utica College on Saturday and swept the host Pioneers in a doubleheader. The Bombers trailed in the first game but eventually won 12–6 and then defeated the Pioneers in the following game by the identical score.
In the first game, junior pitcher Pat Lemmo hurled a complete game for the South Hill squad, allowing six runs on ten hits and striking out seven. Senior first baseman Mike Preite led the Blue and Gold offense as he went 4-for-5 at the plate on his way to four runs scored and two RBIs.
Freshman pitcher John Prendergast started the second game for the Bombers, giving up five runs during seven innings. Sophomore pitcher David Jasukonis and freshman pitcher Andrew Sanders pitched the final two innings. The Blue and Gold had a consistent day as seven batters registered multiple hits, led by sophomore second baseman Jeffrey Mathers and junior catcher Corey Caswell, who had each had three hits.
The South Hill Squad is now 18—4—1 overall and 8—1 in Empire 8 Conference play. The Bombers return home to face the University of Rochester Yellowjackets at 4 p.m. Tuesday on Freeman Field.
