Center for Natural Sciences evacuated

The Center for Natural Sciences was evacuated today at 10:43 a.m. due to activation of a fire alarm.Dave Maley, associate director of media relations, said the fire alarm was caused by a disruption made during construction of the CNS building.

The alarm was activated on the third floor near the roof hatch, but when the fire department responded to the alarm, they did not find any smoke or fire in the building, Maley said.

“A contractor that had been doing some of the construction work in the Center for Natural Sciences accidentally disturbed a detector,” Maley said. “There was no fire that took place, but when the alarm goes off, the fire department has to respond.”

The building was cleared at 11:12 a.m., and students and faculty were allowed to go back inside.

The roof of the CNS building is in the process of being replaced, and repairs are expected to be completed by the middle of this month.
