Amy Goodman, the third inductee into the I. F. Stone Hall of Fame, spoke at the eigth annual Izzy Awards in 2016.

The Ithaca College Park Center for Independent Media has announced the recipients of the ninth annual Izzy Award: Mother Jones’ Senior Reporter Shane Bauer, Nation Institute’s Investigative Fund Reporter Seth Freed Wessler and The Nation’s Senior Contributing Writer Ari Berman.

Bauer and Wessler were awarded the Izzy Award for uncovering abuse at for-profit prisons, and Berman won for his work on exposing voter suppression, according to a news release from the PCIM. In 2016, journalists Jamie Kalven and Brandon Smith received the award as well as InsideClimate News.

The Izzy Award — created by Jeff Cohen, PCIM founder and director — honors outstanding achievement in independent media and is named after the late I.F. “Izzy” Stone, the journalist who created I.F. Stone’s Weekly and challenged mainstream media ideals.
