14th annual Izzy Award ceremony recognizes dissident journalism

The Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) held its 14th annual Izzy Award ceremony April 26 via Zoom where independent media outlets and journalists were honored for their work.

The Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM) announced the recipients of the 13th annual Izzy Award on April 2.
Carla Minet, executive director of Puerto Rican organization Centro de Periodismo Investigativo (CPI), accepted the Izzy Award on the organization’s behalf. The CPI won the award for its 2019 reporting on the Puerto Rican government’s lack of disaster preparedness.

The PCIM is a small department in the Roy H. Park School of Communications that helps students find internships in independent media, brings speakers to campus and hosts the Izzy Awards.
Sharon Lerner, a reporting fellow at the Investigative Fund and journalist at The Intercept, spoke after she was given an Izzy Award from the Park Center for Independent Media on April 24. Her work focuses on environmental racism and environmental negligences of corporations.
