The Ithaca College Theatre announced that the performance of its musical “Fun Home,” scheduled for April 14, is canceled because some of the cast tested positive for COVID-19.
In an email sent to ticket holders April 13, Ryan Dickson, instructor in the Department of Theatre Arts, said the creative team of “Fun Home” determined that it is not logistically possible to perform the musical April 14. For those who purchased tickets, refunds are available. Individuals can also add credit to their account for a future show. The email stated that because of the number of requests for refunds, there may be a wait time of three to four weeks for the process to be completed.
As of April 14, there are 18 active student COVID-19 cases, seven staff cases and no faculty cases, according to the college’s COVID-19 Tracking Dashboard.
“Fun Home” is a five-time Tony–winning musical based on the graphic novel of the same name written by Alison Bechdel. The creative team for the performance at the college includes Gavin Mayer, assistant professor in the Department of Theatre Arts and director of the creative team, and choreographer Aimee Riles along with 11 other members. There is a cast of 11 students who have performed the musical multiple times earlier in the week.
The Ithaca College Theatre Box Office reopened for the spring semester March 21 with tickets for four performances: “We Wear the Sea like a Coat,” “Red Bike,” “Fun Home” and the One-Act Play Festival. Performances for the One–Act Play Festival are scheduled to begin April 25.
