Ithaca College will recognize undergraduate students in the Class of 2024 in a commencement ceremony and graduate students in the Class of 2024 in a commencement and hooding ceremony during the weekend of May 18–19, 2024.

Ithaca College will hold a commencement ceremony for undergraduate students in the Class of 2024 and a commencement and hooding ceremony for graduate students in the Class of 2024 during the weekend of May 18–19, 2024.

In an email sent to the campus community Nov. 7, Melanie Stein, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said the commencement and hooding ceremony for graduate students will be held at 1 p.m. May 18, 2024. The commencement ceremony for undergraduate students will occur at 10 a.m. May 19, 2024. Stein said both ceremonies will take place in the Glazer Arena in the Athletic and Events Center.

“Though we are still months away from these moments, I want to offer my gratitude to this community for supporting these students as they finish their time with us on South Hill and offer my thanks particularly to the many staff and faculty whose work and creativity will make May’s celebrations safe, student-centered, and joyous,” Stein said in the email.

The 2024 commencement ceremonies will follow the format of the 2023 commencement ceremonies, with one ceremony for undergraduate students and a combined commencement and hooding ceremony for graduate students.

Commencement and hooding for graduate students were first held as a single ceremony in 2023 to make it easier for graduate students to attend both, as the ceremonies were previously held on two days during commencement weekend.

The 2023 undergraduate commencement ceremony marked the first time since 2019 that the college held one in-person ceremony for all undergraduate students receiving their degrees.

The 2020 in-person commencement ceremony was cancelled because of COVID-19 restrictions, so the college held virtual commencement ceremonies for each of the five schools. In 2021, graduating students could choose to walk at the in-person commencement ceremony or participate in the ceremony virtually. The ceremony was held in the Glazer Arena, a change from Butterfield Stadium, where it was held in previous years. In 2022, the college held two undergraduate commencement ceremonies to fit the graduating students and their supporters in the Glazer Arena.

Stein said the college will share updates about the ceremony with the campus community and individuals can visit the commencement website for more information.
