All candidates for the 10 open senate positions in the Fall 2024 Student Governance Council elections were elected. Candidates campaigned from Sept. 16 to Sept. 20, with voting on IC Engage opening Sept. 19 and closing Sept. 20.
First-year students Amelia Grimshaw and Manan Maini were elected as Class of 2028 senators, with Grimshaw receiving 50 votes and Maini receiving 37. There was one vote of no confidence. A vote of no confidence is casted when a voter does not believe the person running for a position will be effective in that position.
“As I step into this role, my main goal is to ensure that the voices of our class are heard and prioritized,” Maini said via email. “I plan to focus on initiatives that foster engagement and support among students, as well as address any concerns that arise. I believe that by working collaboratively, we can create a vibrant and inclusive environment at Ithaca College. I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead and am eager to make a positive impact during my time in this position.”
Junior Noeline Luyindula was elected as the first-generation senator with 17 votes.
First-year student Giulia Gennari received 24 votes and was elected School of Health Sciences and Human Performance senator.
“I had a great time running for senator!” Gennari said via email. “SGC is a welcoming and kind group. I am excited to start working with people who want to make productive changes on campus.”
Sophomore Anabel Pimenta Velloso was elected varsity athlete senator with three votes.
“I’m thrilled and humbled to have been elected to the SGC as varsity athlete senator,” Velloso said via email. “I hope to get to work towards enhancing academic resources for athletes as soon as possible. I can’t wait to represent the undeniably skilled athletes of this campus and hear your voices! Go Bombs.”
Junior Dante Conde, who previously served as senator-at-large, was elected as Class of 2026 senator with 37 votes. He received one vote of no confidence and the other Class of 2026 senator position remains open.
“I want to continue supporting all those who have elected me and those who have not,” Conde said via email. “In the time that I have in SGC, I want to make our lives here a little easier than they were yesterday. I want to be a good resource for anything SGC related, or Politics related. I cannot wait to see what work we all accomplish this year.”
Sophomore Juno Brooks was elected as Class of 2027 senator with 41 votes, as well as two votes of no confidence. The other Class of 2027 senator position remains unfilled.
Junior Login Abudalla, who served as the Wells College Class of 2026 president before transferring to Ithaca College for Fall 2024, was elected as transfer senator with 10 votes.
First-year students Claude Hayes and Abe Marron were both elected to senator-at-large positions. Hayes received 120 votes and Marron received 125 votes. There were seven votes of no confidence.
Following the election, there are eight senate positions that remain unfilled: both Class of 2025 senators, one Class of 2026 senator, one Class of 2027 senator, one senator-at-large, one Students of Color Coalition senator, one graduate senator and one off-campus senator.
Sophomore Yusef Scott-Wetherbee, the previous vice president of academic affairs, turned in his resignation Sept. 20, leaving that position open as well. Scott-Wetherbee cited external responsibilities and time commitments that prevented him from continuing in the role. The vice president of academic affairs responsibilities are being split between the remaining executive board members for the time being.
“As per our Constitution, the Executive board will decide how to best proceed to fill this position,” Rishabh Sen, president of the student body, said. “This process will be made transparent in the near future in a Senate meeting.”
