Ithaca College junior Prakriti Panwar, a journalism and economics double major, has been appointed editor-in-chief of The Ithacan for the 2025-26 academic year. Panwar was the only candidate interviewed for the role by the Board of Publications on March 31.
Panwar was interviewed by the board via Zoom because she is studying abroad at the Ithaca College London Center. The interview was open to the public and conducted in Park Hall. The board made the recommendation for her appointment to Amy Falkner, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, who accepted and appointed Panwar to the position.
Panwar began working for The Ithacan in Fall 2022 as a staff writer and was hired as an assistant news editor for Spring 2023. Panwar served as an assistant news editor until Fall 2023. In Spring 2024, Panwar was appointed news editor and held the role for two consecutive semesters until December 2024.
Panwar received the Society of Professional Journalists Region 1 Mark of Excellence Award for in-depth reporting in the small college category for “Experiences of BIPOC students in performing arts reveal patterns of discrimination at Ithaca College.” Panwar is a digital news intern at Guinness World Records in London. She previously interned for Crooked Media in summer 2023 and Financial Times in summer 2024.
As of March 31, the managing editor of The Ithacan for the 2025-26 academic year is yet to be determined.
