New York State Police arrested former Ithaca College student Jonathan D’Agostino on Jan. 16 for the felonies of promotion and possession of child sexual abuse material. D’Agostino is 21 years old and last attended IC in Fall 2023.
Members of the Ithaca Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Police’s Troop C Computers Crime Unit executed a search warrant on D’Agostino’s residence in September 2025. D’Agostino was reported to be missing Sept. 7, 2025 when New York State Park police found his vehicle in Buttermilk Falls State Park with his phone and a note implying self-harm inside. D’Agostino was later found alive in Pennsylvania on Sept. 22, 2025.
State police began investigating D’Agostino after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children sent state police a referral for D’Agostino concerning suspicious online activity, according to a Jan. 20 state police press release.
D’Agostino was processed at state police barracks in Ithaca on Jan. 16 and was later transported to the Tompkins County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
D’Agostino is facing charges for the class “D” felony of Promote a Sexual Performance by a Child Less Than 17 Years of Age and the class “E” felony of Possessing Sexual Performance by a Child less than 16.
