The sculling team continued its strong start to its season this weekend in Rochester, New York, as the Bombers swept the Head of Genesee regatta in medals, finishing first in both categories.

With high water levels and strong winds, the Bombers took on two different schools for each category. In the doubles section, the squad took on two boats from Clarkson University, and for the singles, the only contender was a boat from St. John Fisher College.

The Blue and Gold raced five boats on the day in the doubles category, and they took the first five places for the event. The first three boats took home medals for the Bombers.

The fastest boat on the day was the first double from the Blue and Gold, which was rowed by senior Emily Morley and graduate student Jennie Peterson in a time of 18:19.05. Seniors Krista Syracuse and Katie Ely finished in 18:43.27 to place second, while junior Maddie Petersen and sophomore Karina Feitner placed third with a time of 19:18.71.

As for the singles event, the Bombers raced four boats, and they took the first four places. Senior Sara Muroski and juniors Rachel Dowd  and Petersen took home medals after the results were finalized.

Peterson, Muroski and Dowd finished with times of 21:22.57, 21:36.95 and 21:39.44, respectively. Senior Erin McNaughton finished in a time of 22:36.78 to place fourth.

The team has collected a total of eight medals on the season thus far.

The South Hill squad will return to the water at 9 a.m. Oct. 11 for the Seven Sisters Regatta in Amherst, Massachusetts.
