The Ithaca College women’s soccer team fell to Stevens Institute of Technology by a final score of 2–1 Nov. 7 in the Empire 8 conference final in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Four yellow cards were handed out in the game, including one to junior forward Jess Demczar in the 14th minute that lead to a penalty kick for Stevens midfielder Kristen Goncalves, her ninth goal of the season.
The Ducks would go on to score again in the first half after freshman forward Zisi Komar faked out her defender and ricocheted a shot off the far post into the back of the net in the 21st minute off an assist from fellow freshman Olivia Butera.
The Bombers would try and make a rally in the second half in the 53rd minute as senior forward Kelsey King connected on a penalty kick. However, it wouldn’t be enough as the Blue and Gold would remain scoreless for the rest of the game.
In total, the Bombers took 20 shots during the game, 12 of which came in the second half, and nine on goal. Stevens took 24 shots, 17 of which were in the first half and 15 on goal.
Except for the two allowed shots, senior goalkeeper Beth Coppolecchia played spectacular, racking up 13 saves in the game. Stevens goalie Lindsey Mahnken had eight saves of her own.
The Bombers stand at 13–4–2 and will look to receive an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament.
