The women’s soccer team ended its season coming up short in a Final Four contest against eighth-ranked Wheaton College yesterday in San Antonio, Texas. The Bombers appeared in the semifinals for the first since 1998.

The South Hill squad came out firing, controlled possession, and kept the tempo of the game in their favor early in the game. Junior goalkeeper Becca Salant finished the game with 11 saves, falling just two short of her career high, as the Bombers kept Wheaton scoreless for the first 53 minutes of the game.

Despite Salant’s great performance, the Bombers were only able to get off three shots to Wheaton’s 28. The Thunder struck in the 53rd minute and again in the 72nd minute to go up 2-0 with only 18 minutes remaining in the game. Junior forward Rachael Palladino finally got a shot on goal in the 86th minute, but was unable to score.

The Bombers finished the regular season 15–4–3 and won four NCAA Tournament playoff games on their way to their first Final Four appearance in 13 seasons. The Blue and Gold have not made it to the national championship game since 1991.
