The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Nov. 18 to hear from Caryanne Keenan, director of New Student and Transition Programs, about Fall 2024 orientation and plans for Fall 2025 orientation. The SGC provided suggestions on how Keenan could further help new students get acclimated to the college.

The City of Ithaca's Climate Action Plan that was written in 2023 and will be rewritten over the next six months to include more climate justice-oriented goals. Ithaca residents have been urging for a community-focused plan that would bring in local climate and social justice organizations to help plan and combat climate change.

On Nov. 10, Cornell University sophomore Winter Knutson was found dead in Fall Creek Gorge. Earlier that morning a woman — only identified as a Cornell student as of this time — was found unresponsive after falling into another section of the Fall Creek Gorge. The unidentified student was airlifted from a field on Cornell’s campus to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania.

Jason Starkman ’22 and Sam Edelstein ’22 said that while studying at Ithaca College they noticed that for them and their peers, making sense of the complexities of politics was intimidating and time-consuming. Their observation called them to action and in 2023, the pair joined a tech startup with a vision to create an accessible civic education app. On Sept. 4, Starkman and Edelstein, chief technical officer and chief operating officer, helped launch Poliquicks.
