The Ithaca College gymnastics team took fourth place out of five teams in its meet against SUNY Brockport, SUNY Cortland, Rhode Island College and Temple University on Feb. 28.
On vault, the Bombers finished with a score of 46.15, taking fifth in that event. Senior Megan Harrington tied her career-best with a score of 9.45.
Harrington said one of her goals was to relax and have fun during this meet.
“I think personally being able to relax and be confident in myself was a huge improvement I made this meet,” Harrington said.
On the uneven bars, the team took fourth, finishing with a score of 44.30.
On balance beam, the Bombers had a good showing, taking third place with a score of 46.725, beating Cortland on that event. Sophomore Kendra Balcerak had an excellent performance on beam, with a score of 9.6.
Balcerak said the best part of the meet for her was nailing her beam routine after a few weeks off.
“The best part for the team was how we pulled together and stepped up to new events to fill in our injuries,” Balcerak said.
Balcerak said the team improved by being more relaxed and confident in its skills.
“I think our goals for the next meet, which is ECACs, is to do our thing and focus on us — compete like we practice because we practice like champions,” Balcerak said.
On floor exercise, the Blue and Gold placed fourth, with a score of 47.125, falling to Cortland by less than a 10th of a point. Sophomores Eleanor Almeida and Melissa Hollrigl finished floor with season highs of 9.575 and 9.525, respectively.
The Bombers ended with a total score of 184.3, placing fourth place. Temple University won the meet with a total score of 191.15. Following them, Brockport took second with a score of 190.3 and Cortland took third place with a score of 186.975. Rhode Island College took fifth with 178.25.
The team will host the East Region Championships at 1 p.m. March 6 in Ben Light Gymnasium, which is the final meet before National Championships.
