Graduate transfers making noise on the field and in the classroom

When many athletes would be forced to give up their sport, Ithaca College gives student-athletes the chance to transfer to the college in pursuit of an exercise science master’s degree while finishing out their NCAA eligibility with a varsity sports team.

Like father like son, senior defensive back earns All-American nod

With his recent First Team All-American selection, senior defensive back Jake Connolly followed in the footsteps of his father, Scott Connolly ʼ96, who earned his All-American selection in 1995. The Connolly’s became the second father-son duo in program history to both earn All-American honors.

Lacrosse alum takes his talents to the pros

Eli Gobrecht ’16, Ithaca College men’s lacrosse alum, is leaving an impact on the sport by playing with two professional lacrosse teams, representing his country on the global stage and coaching the next generation of lacrosse players.
On July 29, the college’s athletics department announced the addition of women’s wrestling to the varsity sport agenda. The team will begin competition in the 2025–26 season and will mark the 14th women’s sport offered on campus.

Newest varsity team expands field of women’s sports

This fall, Ithaca College became the first institution in the Liberty League to take the next step in expanding women’s sports.

Farrell’s departure prompts new era for men’s rugby club

Following the departure of Annemarie Farrell after Spring 2024, former sports management professor at Ithaca College and head coaching position of the men’s rugby team was left vacant. The new coaching team is working to maintain the positive team culture that Farrell built as well as to address the gradual decline in the roster size.

Sophomore trio serves up success for volleyball

They say two’s company and three’s a crowd, but when it comes to volleyball, three is the magic number. It’s the number of times a team can touch the ball during a rally, the number of sets needed to win a match and, if the sophomores of the Ithaca College volleyball team are anything to go by, the ideal number of players for a recruiting class.

Student-athletes thrive as NBA and WNBA interns

For a large majority of college athletes, intercollegiate athletics is their final foray into the world of competitive sports before they enter the workforce. But for three of Ithaca College’s student-athletes, the workforce and professional sports became the same over the summer.
For the 2024–25 season, six teams — men’s cross-country, men’s track and field, volleyball, sculling, women's rowing and women’s tennis — will have a new head coach. Four different teams will have new assistant coaches.

As the academic year kicks off, so does a new athletic season. For the 2024–25 season, six teams — men’s cross-country, men’s track and field, volleyball, sculling, women's rowing and women’s tennis — will have a new head coach. In addition, four teams — men’s basketball, men’s rowing, sculling and women’s rowing — will have new assistant coaches.

During the 1967 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons chose Sandor Szabo ’67 with the 317th pick. That was 57 years ago and no athlete from Ithaca College has made it close to the NFL since then. Until now.
Following the resignation of longtime head strength and conditioning coach, Vic Brown, Ben Fleet '22 has assumed the role of interim head strength and conditioning coach. Fleet has primarily relied on support from a team of graduate assistants.

In February, Ithaca College announced that longtime head coach of strength and conditioning, Vic Brown, announced his resignation from the department. To fill the void, a young group of strength and conditioning coaches and graduate assistants have fought to maintain stability through continuing change.
The Polar Plunge, an annual event that fundraises for Special Olympic New York, was hosted on March 23 by the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. Volunteers that raised over $25 line up to take the plunge in freezing conditions.
