SGC votes to establish new student-led committee on artificial intelligence

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council met Nov. 17 to hear from David Weil, senior vice president for strategic services, and Casey Kendall, deputy Chief Information Officer, to speak about sustainability and other initiatives in the Office of Information Technology and Analytics. The council also voted on a bill to establish a new artificial intelligence ad hoc committee.
Ithaca College students in the communication strategy and design (CSD) major and minor received an email Oct. 20 explaining that the program would no longer be offered or accept new students starting Fall 2026.

IC to discontinue the communication, strategy and design major in Fall 2026

Ithaca College students in the communication strategy and design (CSD) major and minor received an email Oct. 20 explaining that the program would no longer be offered or accept new students starting Fall 2026. In the place of CSD, the school will offer a revised advertising, public relations and marketing communications (APRMC) major and minor.
Democrat Christy Bianconi ’02 won the seat for District 14 of the Tompkins County Legislature. Democrat Jorge DeFendini won the 1st Ward seat on the City of Ithaca’s Common Council. Democrat Hannah Shvets won the 5th Ward seat on the City of Ithaca’s Common Council.

Faculty Council discusses proposed Faculty Handbook changes and athletics

The Ithaca College Faculty Council met Nov. 4 to discuss the relationship between athletics and academics, as well as proposed Faculty Handbook changes. Aaron Bouyea, director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation, spoke to the council at the beginning of the meeting about his role and his goals for the academic year.
Georgina Catacora-Vargas will be at Ithaca College in the Department of the Environment for the 2025-26 academic year.

Georgina Catacora-Vargas is a visiting professor from Bolivia at Ithaca College through the Fulbright Scholar Program, which allows for non-citizens of the United States to come to colleges and universities across the U.S. to shine an international spotlight on their expertise and allows U.S. citizens to bring their expertise to other countries.
