IPD reports unattended death in “the Jungle”

The Ithaca Police Department reported the unattended death of a homeless resident Monday morning.

In a press release from Chief of Police Edward Vallely, the IPD, the Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to a report of an unresponsive person inside a tent at the encampment known as “the Jungle,”  a wooded enclave that runs between the Cayuga Lake Inlet and the railroad tracks in Ithaca’s West End. Medical personnel declared the man, Ithaca resident Gary Delaney, dead upon arrival at the scene.

According to the release, Delaney had last been seen alive at around 10 p.m. Friday. He was 36. Police are currently awaiting autopsy results from Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
