The shifting focus on AI in education is not solely in higher education. According to a 2024 AIPRM report, 54% of grade school students use AI tools for schoolwork with around 60% of grade school teachers claiming to integrate it into their teaching plans. 

IC focuses on increased artificial intelligence initiatives for educational and departmental use

Throughout the 2024-25 academic year, Ithaca College has placed an increased focus on artificial intelligence initiatives and AI education across campus, with the Presidential Working Group on AI formulating recommendations and guidelines for the use and implementation of AI. They have been working on a plan of six deliverables, which will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in May. 
On Jan. 7, Cayuga Health and Arnot Health announced their merger. The Hammond Health Center will now be implementing EPIC, an electronic health record system.

Cayuga Health and Arnot Health merge to expand medical services

On Jan. 7, Cayuga Health and Arnot Health in Elmira, New York announced their merger, known as Centralus Health. The goal of the merger is to provide a streamlined health care system and a larger community reach. Because Ithaca College’s Hammond Health Center merged with the Cayuga Health System, students will be able to access new resources and technologies from Arnot Health
Kari Brossard Stoos, associate professor and associate chair of the Department of Health Sciences and Public Health, will be teaching three new health courses in Spring 2025 called Introduction to One Health, Let’s Talk about Periods and Antibiotic Resistance: The Creeping Pandemic. Brossard Stoos said these courses are an effort to educate health care leaders-in-the-making about the World Health Organization’s objectives and provide a space for students to discuss pressing global health care concerns.

Talks about synthetic turf fields resurface as local environmental groups express concerns

In 2023, Ithaca College faced objections from the local community while constructing a synthetic turf field approved by the Town of Ithaca’s Planning & Development Board. Now in 2024, the City of Ithaca’s planning board will meet Sept. 3 to determine the next steps of Cornell University’s proposal of constructing two synthetic turf fields on its campus.  
These visits at Hammond are provided via the Cayuga Health System network, which is different from the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). CAPS will remain free.

Health center to begin charging copays for student visits, IC counseling services remain free

An email sent June 13 announced that mental and sexual health visits provided by the Ithaca College Hammond Health Center will no longer remain free. Previously, mental and sexual health visits at Hammond were based on a no-charge visit model. Now, students will be charged a copay for each visit.
