Baseball: Squad begins conference play with win

The baseball team began Empire 8 Conference play with a 5–1 victory yesterday against Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. The Bombers are now 10—3—1 on the season and ranked 20th in Division III.

Junior pitcher Pat Lemmo started on the mound for the Blue and Gold, registering seven strikeouts and three walks. He gave up just one run during eight innings of work, which came off a solo home run by Ducks sophomore left fielder Dan Allen.Junior pitcher Ian Gaule pitched the final inning.

The Ducks used three pitchers throughout the game, with sophomore Gary Boardman getting the start. Boardman surrendered three runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.

On the offensive side, sophomore shortstop Tim Locastro hit two solo home runs — one that came in the first inning and the other being hit in the second. Sophomore third baseman Colby Gee led the South Hill squad with three of the team’s 11 hits. The Ducks didn’t struggle offensively either, getting nine hits, but they did have ten players left on base at the end of the game.
