IC volleyball picks up three wins at Wellesley Invitational

The Ithaca College volleyball team won all three of its matches at the Wellesley Invitational on Oct. 14–15.

First, the South Hill squad swept the Wellesley College Blue on Oct. 14. The Bombers won the first set 26–24, the second set 25–16 and they completed the sweep with a 25–22 victory in the third.

Sophomore middle hitter Katie Evans led the Blue and Gold with 11 kills, while junior setter Kayla Gromen led the team with 17 assists. Evans also led the team with 11.5 points. For Wellesley, freshman right side hitter Meghan Shoop led the team with 13 kills, and sophomore setter Michelle Li led the team with 31 assists. Additionally, Shoop led the team with 14.5 points.

On Oct. 15, the Bombers narrowly won their match 3–2 against the Wesleyan University Cardinals. In the first set, the South Hill squad emerged with a 25–23 victory. The Blue and Gold lost the second and third sets by scores of 21–25 and 15–25, respectively. On the verge of defeat, the Bombers persevered and won the fourth set 25–18. Finally, the South Hill Squad took the clinching set 15–9.

For the Blue and Gold, Evans led the team with 14 kills while Gromen led the team with 23 assists. Freshmen outside hitters Mia Hogan and Stasie Litinsky led the Cardinals with twelve kills each. Freshman setter Audrey Konow led the team with 17 assists.

The Bombers went on to sweep their second opponent of the day, the Endicott College Gulls. The Blue and Gold won the first set 25–20 and the second set 25–15. The South Hill squad clinched the match victory with a 25–19 victory in the third set.

For the Bombers, freshman outside hitter Taylor McCarthy led the team with eight kills, while freshman setter Caitlyn Floyd led the team with 13 assists. Sophomore middle hitter Amanda Cerruti led the team with 8.5 points. For the Gulls, senior and freshman outside hitters Tori McIntyre and Alex Dippel, led the team with eight kills each. Additionally, McIntyre led the Gulls with nine points while sophomore setter Mareena Clotfelter led the team with 16 assists.

The South Hill Squad returns to the action at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 when they host SUNY Oneonta in the Ben Light Gymnasium.
