Men’s and women’s tennis face off against Hamilton

Both the Ithaca College men’s and women’s tennis teams competed against Hamilton College on April 23. The men brought home a 7–2 win while the women lost 2–7.

The men won five of the six singles matches and won two of the three doubles matches against the Continentals. This is the fifth straight win for the Bombers.

Freshman Stefan Lazarevic earned a three-set victory at sixth singles. After losing the first set 6–4, Lazarevic earned the point by scores of 6–3 and 10–3 to improve his record to 5–2 in dual matches.

In the other singles matches, senior Chris Hayes posted a 6–4, 6–1 win during first flight, while junior Wes Davis got a 6–4, 6–0 win during the second flight. Junior Nate Wolf earned a 7–6 (7–4), 6–2 victory at the third flight.

Sophomore Lorenzo Viguie-Ramos obtained a 6–3, 6–2 win at the fifth flight, while fellow Bomber Brandon Buksbaum lost a 6–2, 6–1 at fourth singles.

Hayes and Viguie-Ramos advanced 12–2 in singles play in duals, while Davis escalated to 11–3.

During doubles, Davis and Hayes earned an 8–6 victory at the first flight, while Buksbaum and Wolf obtained a 9–8, 7–3 win at the third flight. Lazarevic and Viguie-Ramos dropped an 8–6 decision at second doubles.

The women dropped four of six singles matches and lost in the three doubles matches against the Hamilton Continentals.

Senior Marni Blumenthal and junior Haley Kusak obtained wins in singles action. Kusak earned a 6–1, 6–0 win at first singles. Blumenthal obtained straight-sets of 6–3, 6–1 to win at third singles.

Freshman Caroline Dunn lost a 6–0, 6–3 decision at the second flight, while fellow Bomber Shayna Ginster lost 6–1, 6–2 at fourth singles. Freshman Kathryn Shaffer lost a 6–2, 6–4 during the fifth flight and junior Jodi Grosberg dropped a 6–2, 6–0 decision at the sixth flight.

In doubles, Dunn and Kusak lost an 8–3 decision at the first flight, while Ginster and Shaffer took a 8–4 setback during second flight. Blumenthal and junior Maddie Overholt fell 8–1 at third doubles.

The men will face off at noon April 24 on the Wheeler Tennis Courts against Utica College. The women will return to action at 10 a.m. May 1 on the Wheeler Tennis Courts against Connecticut College for Senior Day.
