Men’s Cross-Country: Bombers win second straight Empire 8 Conference title

The men’s cross country team emerged victorious yesterday at the Empire 8 Conference Championships, making it the second straight year they’ve won the conference title.

The Bombers finished the seven-team meet at Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. with 37 points, 22 points fewer than second place Stevens Institute of Technology.

While St. John Fisher College sophomore Cohen Miles-Rath had the top individual finish overall, junior Nathan Bickell had the Bombers’ top time and finished second overall at 25:55 out of a pool of 77 runners. Bickell was one of three Bombers named to the All-Empire 8 first team.  The other two were senior captain Dan Craighead, who finished fourth in 26:16, and junior David Geary, who finished seventh in 26:42.

Junior Mark Vorensky was named to the All-Empire 8 second team after finishing ninth with a time of 26:48.

Rounding out the Blue and Gold’s top seven, junior Billy Savage finished 15th in 27:19, junior Chris Lotsbom finished 17th in 27:21 and senior Tyler Murray finished 26th in 27:52.

Junior Joseph Lu finished 27th in 27:52, sophomore Sam Horwath finished 28th in 27:56 and freshman Dennis Ryan finished 31st in 28:11.

Rounding out the South Hill squad, senior Jacob Brower finished 34th in 28:16, freshman Anthony Altobelli finished 36th in 28:27, freshman Mason Mann finished 45th in 29:16 and junior Matthew Kastler finished 56th in 30:37.

The South Hill squad will return to action at noon Nov. 12 when they compete at the NCAA Atlantic Championships at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.
