Men’s soccer: Blue and Gold post shutout for the win

The men’s soccer team pulled out a 1–0 win Wednesday against the Hobart College Statesmen at Cozzens Field. Senior midfielder Jeff Geyer scored early in the game and the Bombers held the lead to record their second win in their last three games.

Geyer, the Bombers’ co-captain and their overall leader in shots with 35 on the season, scored his first goal of the season in the 13th minute on a shot from five yards out into the left side of the goal past junior Hobart goalkeeper Charlie Hale.  Senior goalkeeper Justin Parlapiano kept Hobart off the board the rest of the way by saving four of the five Hobart shots on goal, along with one Hobart shot on goal in the 20th minute that was registered as a team save.

Geyer led the Bombers with eight shots and registered four of the team’s five shots on goal, with the other shot on goal coming from sophomore forward Colton Wigsten.

With the win, the Bombers improved their overall record to 3–6–3. The South Hill squad’s next game is at Utica College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
