Women’s Lacrosse: Bombers open season in blowout fashion

Six goals from junior attack Tracy Rivas helped the women’s lacrosse team get its 2012 season off on the right foot, as the Bombers defeated the University of Rochester 16-7 Wednesday on the road.

The game was tied 2-2 with 18:39 remaining in the first half before Rivas scored on an assist from sophomore attack Becky Guzzo. The goal gave the Bombers a lead they would not relinquish.

The Blue and Gold led 8-3 at the end of the first half and piled on the offense in the second half scoring eight more goals.

Rivas was one of five Bombers to find the back of the net against the YellowJackets. Senior attack Nicole Borisenok, junior midfielder Michelle Avery and junior midfielder Kim Armbruster scored three goals apiece and junior midfielder Nikki Dahl also scored.

The Bombers will head south to spend their spring break in Clermont, Fla., where they will take on Springfield College and no. 5 Franklin and Marshall College. The South Hill squad’s next game will be against Springfield at 1 p.m. Monday.
