Women’s soccer team shutout by William Smith Herons

The women’s soccer team fell to 3–2 on the season after a 2–0 loss to William Smith College on Sept. 19, dropping the first out of two games in the Rochester Tournament.

The first score came in the 17th minute of play as William Smith midfielder Evie Manning put the ball in the back of the net off an assist by forward Kara Shue.

The Blue and Gold would not be able to answer back as the half wound down, taking only two shots on goal. William Smith took eight shots.

In the 61st minute, the Herons put the South Hill squad away for good with a goal from forward Krista Longo off an assist from midfielder Brie Ruane.

The Bombers struggled offensively all game, only taking three shots on goal. Senior forward Kelsey King was able to put one shot on goal, but could not get it past William Smith goalie Kaileen Murray. Senior Beth Coppolecchia had five saves on goal that day.

William Smith’s defense held strong throughout the entire game, and the team also held without allowing the Bombers any corner kicks, whereas William Smith had four of them.

The Bombers will retake the field Sept. 20 and play rival SUNY Cortland at 3 p.m. for the second game of the Rochester Tournament.
