Women’s tennis falls short in first round of NCAA Championship

After winning its 11th straight Empire 8 Championship on Oct. 18 against Stevens Institute of Technology, the women’s tennis team lost in the first round of the NCAA Championship 5–0 against SUNY Geneseo May 13.

The Blue and Gold put up a solid fight in doubles but lost all three with close scores. Freshman Caroline Dunn and junior Haley Kusak, along with juniors Maddie Overholt and Sydney Greenspan, lost their doubles matches with a score of 8–4. Freshmen Shayna Ginster and Kathryn Shaffer lost 8–6.

On the singles side, the Bombers only finished two of its six matches. Kusak fell to the Knights’ senior Cat Crummey with scores of 6–4 and 6–0. Dunn lost to senior Marylen Santos with scores of 6–1 and 6–1. The other four singles matches did not need to finish play.

The South Hill squad finished its season with a final record of 14–8.
