Women’s tennis sweeps Elmira College to remain undefeated

The Ithaca College women’s tennis team remains undefeated after coming out on top over Elmira College 9-0 Sept. 15 at the Murray Athletic Center Dome. They have now won 13 consecutive matches.

In the doubles play, the Bombers were up and running with an 8–0 shutout by sophomore Taylor Ginestro and senior Jodi Grosberg. Sophomore Kathryn Shaffer and senior Maddie Overholt kept up the dominance with an 8–1 victory. Senior Haley Kusak and freshman Brianna Ruback won their doubles match as well.

In singles play, Shaffer went 6–0, 6–0 and Grosberg went 6–1, 6–1, which put the Bombers up 5–0 and clinched the match.

Ruback swept two straight sets, putting the Bombers ahead 6–0. Ginestro followed with the same results.

Kusak’s match was the closest, but she won 6–2, 6–3. That was her 49th career singles match victory. Overholt completed the match by winning 6–1, 6–3.

The Bombers will play Alfred University at 11 a.m. Sept. 18 on the Ben Wheeler Tennis Courts.
